Resource Recovery Insights from Holland

WEF welcomed Olaf van der Kolk of Reststoffenunie on 12-FEB-2016 to discuss Holland’s resource recovery efforts.  A fascinating conversation provided insights concerning drinking water residuals used in the production of numerous end-products (ie, soil amendments for gardens, artificial turf field stabilizers, concrete products and other construction materials components).

The water companies in Holland are pooling their residual streams making it possible to supply raw materials to “significant economic sectors, sectors which would otherwise remain beyond [their] reach.” The collaboration has brought cost-saving and logistical benefits.
