Congratulations on Platinum Designation for EBMUD

On 18-DEC-2015, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), Oakland, CA recevied continued Platinum Certification from the NBP.  According to the auditor,

  • “The EBMUD BMP is functioning effectively, generating positive outcomes and meets NBP expectations and requirements. . . . The following improvement outcomes within the past two years were confirmed.
  • A structured outreach program has been developed, including a new public tours program
  • Use of formal corrective action process increasing + better understanding of how / when to use.
  • Individual digester flow meters improve process control.
    Improved understanding and control of struvite impact on centrifuge operation.
  • Addition of blend tanks for food & truck waste resulted in more stable process + more consistent quality.
  • Noncompliant gas releases have been eliminated (reduced from 2 in 2014) and a flare expansion project will provide adequate capacity to prevent future releases.
  • The plant is now approximately 130% energy self-sufficient, compared to 120% in 2014.
  • Long-term commitment established for receiving food waste for producing compressed natural gas. An innovative project.
