Encina Wastewater Authority – 10 Years Platinum
Congratulations to Encina Wastewater Authority on receiving the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP) Biosolids Management Program (BMP) 10 Years Platinum award!
Among EWA’s accomplishments, the facility has:
- “Since 2010, PureGreen fertilizer has generated over $334,000 in operational revenue.
- Identified a productive fertilizer marketing strategy by developing partnerships to assist in Tier II product distribution.
- During FY2015, 2,307 tons (53%) of Pure Green Fertilizer was distributed to Tier II
markets. - During FY2015, the Tier II market generated an additional $84,139 in revenue through
sales of the product.”
EWA generates over 70% of the electricity needed to operate the treatment plant through use of its cogeneration facility. Of significant note, EWA’s operation of the cogeneration facility reduces their energy costs by an estimated $2 million per year.
Also, EWA’s heat drying process has greatly reduced biosolids disposal costs. The total savings is an estimated $2 million per year. This process produces pellets that are considered Class A Biosolids. A large percentage of the fertilizer is sent to nurseries, golf courses and soil blenders.
