Barriers to Energy Efficiency Survey

The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) is expanding research efforts into energy efficiency at water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs), with their latest project entitled Identification of Barriers to Energy Efficiency and Resource Recovery at WRRFs and Solutions to Promote These Practices.

A comprehensive, national WERF/NYSERDA survey and focus-group process is in progress to identify barriers for various types of energy efficiency initiatives, including capital projects, maintenance practices, and operational optimization.   Solutions, motivating factors and successful organizational approaches to overcome these barriers are also being explored.

Your input and perspectives are vital – please participate in this brief online survey that will help WERF identify barriers and propose proven solutions to the challenges facilities are facing across the nation.  This survey will capture your perceptions of our energy initiatives, what has been done, what works, and where the stumbling blocks are.

You will find the survey to be very easy to complete and your information will be collated and kept confidential.  The survey is fairly comprehensive, so please plan to spend 20 to 25 minutes completing it.  We realize this is a significant request, but your input will be critical to ensuring that the survey results reflect a broad range of experiences and viewpoints.  Many thanks from the research team for your time and thoughtful responses.

You may return to any question to modify your answer during the survey. Note that if you take a break, you can pick up where you left off. If your survey is partially complete, your answers will be retained until you shut down your computer. However, if you share a computer you will need to complete the survey in one sitting to avoid losing your work.

The timeline for survey is intended to gather and analyze results prior to the WEFTEC conference in late September.  As such, we request that you complete the survey no later than Wednesday, August 28.  Feel free to contact Nancy Andrews, Brown and Caldwell’s WERF Project Manager, (nandrews@brwncald.com) with questions or concerns.
