Victoria’s wastewater treatment program rebranded as ‘Seaterra’
Construction on the Seaterra Program commenced in September 2013 and will continue until 2017. The Seaterra Program will be in operation by March 2018. The Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) at the Hartland landfill in Saanich will process the residual solids produced at the Treatment Plant, which will be sent to the RRC via an underground pipe. “The final technology will depend on the successful proponent’s proposal, but it is expected that the RRC will employ anaerobic digestion to reduce the volume of organic solids to produce biosolids for beneficial use, produce biogas and recover phosphorus. The biosolids produced by the digestion process will be dewatered and utilized in a variety of beneficial uses.”
