Michigan Senate Committee on Agriculture Passes SB332 to Committee of the Whole

Passed:  Michigan Senate Bill 332 that would amend Part 85 (Fertilizers) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to authorize the application of a natural fertilizer to turf in certain amounts.  The bill defines “biosolids” as “a product consisting in whole or in part of sewage sludge that is distributed to the public and that is disinfected by means of composting, pasteurization, wet air oxidation, heat treatment, or other means.” Additionally, the bill provides that “…A person may apply BIOSOLIDS, A NATURAL FERTILIZER, or a manipulated manure to turf at a rate of not more than 0.25 pounds of phosphorus per 1,000 square feet at any 1 time.”  The bill passed the Committee on Agriculture, and the Committee recommended it be given immediate effect.  The bill was referred to the Committee of the Whole on 18-JUN-2013.
